New Museum was designed to become a landmark of Wroclaw by cementing the local cultural zone. The rank and location of the property resulted in the attempt to appear in the city's skyline. This was due to the area of the plot (4 730 m2) and a new volume of the building (15 - 20 000 m2). To meet the expectation of the program of the building, the Museum would fill the whole plot space around the edge. The vision of building throughout the whole plot raised the concern that the designed object would obscure many attractive sights and consequently dominate the immediate surrounding. Hence the idea of the building to shoot up and produce a foreground in the form of a public square.

The priority was to create this square in front of the Museum, open to the park and adjacent to the northern facade of the former Benedictine church. Seen from the city the building refers to the shape of the primary quarter which had filled the plot before the WWII. This solution was also designed to respect the body of the church by pulling him into the ‘game' aimed at creating interesting urban interior on the other side. Solid parts of facade, are made of black brick, in correspondence to the church’s facade. In addition, thus created space had become a lively pedestrian zone by the main entry to the Museum. This area is activated thanks to the direct connection with neighboring park.

The proposed building has two faces: elegant and formal - from the city side, which is in contrast with sculpted and open to the environment one that melts with the square in front of the Museum. Characteristic 'Zigzag' shape of the building, is the continuation of the geometry of the plot and is reflected in the whole building’s geometry, especially in the main hall section. Exhibition halls’ modular space organization allows for different arrangements and modifications.
